What I do: I try to invest my time in connecting with spiritual
sojourners in our community. I also spend time in study, writing articles,
blogging as well as preaching, developing leaders (simple church leaders, AC
members, and congregation), and listening to God's Spirit about what's He's
trying to say to our church family. How long have I been at
The River Church? Darcy Reimer founded the River Church from July 2005 to present
along with his wife Kenda and his friends from Brackendale. One thing most people
don't know about me: I lived in the
Philippines for one year (1989-1990). And I cry during movies like "Finding
Nemo" and "Robots". Yes I am a softy at heart. A few of my favourite
things: Spending time with my wife
(Kenda) and kids (Beth, Anna and Luke), riding the trails of Squamish with friends (some of my favourite trails are Entrails, Mark My
Word, Crouching Monkey, Half Nelson), U2, ice cream, scuba diving the tropics,
the fall, sunshine, Keens & manprees, football (NFL & CFL), sitting on
my favourite bench along the Squamish River sipping a good dark roast watching
wildlife.
What I do: I love meeting women for tea. I offer counseling and spiritual direction for women and couples and am working on becoming a registered clinical counsellor. I also oversee River Kids and I have a desire to guide kids and their families to discover God's immense love for them.
How long have I been at The River? I moved with Darcy and our 3 kids (Beth, Anna, and Luke) to Squamish 6 years ago to start The River Church but have officially on staff for 2 years.
One thing most people don't know about me: is that I have been on a snake hunt with a tribe in Gabon, Africa.
A few of my favorite things are... my family, skiing (x-country and downhill), chai tea lattes with friends, stamp club, hiking, crafts, holidays.
What I do: I work part-time at the homeless shelter run by Squamish Helping Hands Soceity. I help at Open Door, a support group for single mom's that meets on Monday's, and I meet Tuesday's with a group of women from different churches in Squamish to pray for the community. As an Advisory Council Member, this is the first time I have been invited to sit on a church council and, as a woman, I am blessed (and still astounded) by the invitation.
How long have I been at The River Church? For about three years since I arrived in Squamish with my husband Jonathan. We were drawn to the River because of the grace and freedom we found here. We attend the Paradise Valley Simple Church, which is a perfect fit for us as we have at least seven countries represented in our gathering; Jonathan and I add two.
One thing most people don't know about me: I met my husband Jonathan in North Cyprus, the turkish speaking side of this Mediterranean island, where we lived for nine years. We have also lived in Poland, Kyrgyzstan, and Iowa before coming to B.C.
A few of my favorite things: Walking the four lakes trails, living downtown, eating curries and stir-fries, reading books lent to me by friends, the 'supernatural' side of God.
What I do: For a day job, I manage a commercial laundry in Squamish and see more sheets and towels in a day than most people see in a lifetime. Within the River Church, I act as Treasurer on the Advisory Council and together with my wife, co-host the Garibaldi Highlands Simple Church with Pat and Dave Carlin.
How long have I been at The River Church? My wife Grace and I and our two daughters have lived in Squamish since 1995 and we have been attending The River for about 4 years.
One thing most people don't know about me: I am included in the acknowledgements of the book "New Testament Theology - Extending the Table" by Jon M. Isaak
A few of my favorite things: When I am not working I am often riding my mountain or road bike. My wife will warn you not to get me started about biking. I also enjoy spending time with my family, reading and biblical studies.
What I do: I am a homeschooling Mom. As well, I own my own hair salon, which I run out of my home. I am wife to my wonderful and supportive husband Mario, whom I write and perform music with. We are currently working on our first full length CD. I enjoy playing guitar and leading worship at The River.
How long have I been at The River Church? For about 2 years. We began attending The River church in 2009, and have found it to be a place of healing and freedom to grow in the Grace of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
We are hosts of the Valleycliffe Simple Church, which consists of families with school aged kids. We love the vibrancy that all the children bring to our gatherings , we are learning and growing together.
One thing most people don’t know about me: I’ve been to Italy 3 times, the third time we back-packed with our kids.
A few of my favourite things: Reading and spending time with the Lord. Singing and writing music. Kickboxing, hiking the 4 lakes and Nexen lands, a good cup of Orange Pekoe tea with milk and honey. Painting with acrylics and oils, sketching, collage and working with mixed media. Being with family.
What I do: I am a software developer by day, and a Daddy-bear entertainment unit for my son (and hopefully more to come) by night. It currently seems that my dawn hours and dusk hours are spent commuting to and from Vancouver. When I have spare time (those elusive moments), and I have spare energy (even more elusive), I enjoy writting and reading.
How long have I been at the River Church: My wife AnnaMarie and I joined the River Church when we first moved to Squamish, which is now about 3 years ago.
One thing most people don't know about me: I still occasionally wet my bed ... just kidding. I once hit my brother Philipp over the head with a hammer when we were both very little (I did it because my oldest brother Lukas told me to).
A few of my favourite things: Stories. I love stories in almost any form (genealogies are a bit tough though). My favourite book is Lord of The Rings, and my favourite movie is Groundhog Day (I've seen that movie over and over and over again). I like reading and writing and learning new things. I like to talk about ideas and philosophy and God and Jesus. I love my wife and my son.
What I do: I've recently retired from my Massage Therapy practice after almost 18 years. I'm now a full-time Herbalife consultant and recruiter. I love the products as they give me energy for my long days and aid in weight management. I enjoy helping people get healthy and start their own business. How long have I been at The River Church: My husband, Jason, and I moved to Squamish in the Fall of 2007 and have been attending The River Church since then. We love our church community and the Squamish community as a whole. One thing most people don't know about me: I helped facilitate a women's prison ministry in Lima, Peru. We ministered to expatriates incarcerated in Peru for drug trafficking. A few of my favourite things: I enjoy trail running on the trails around Squamish, mountain biking, and going for long walks with Jason and our dog Sofi. Jason and I like to travel, especially in our cute little travel trailer. We enjoy sailing, even though we are boat-less at the moment. I love sharing a nice cup of tea with friends.
