The River Community Church

Overview

As a church family it has been our belief that we don't want a church building. This remains true. We still believe that the church has left the building. But over the years something different has emerged. Squamish is uniquely situated in a part of the country where we get a lot of rain. On average 2400 millimeters per year. So what do kids do through the long winter months? We are asking the same kinds of questions.

So our dream as a church is to create a space where kids and youth in our community can experience healthy play. Where spiritual mothers and fathers can begin to pour into kids so they begin to catch a glimpse of who they are and why they exist. It is our desire to create a space where after school care can be provided for kids and teens, where Young Life staff in our community have a place to connect with kids, especially during the winter months. We envision this facility would include a covered/lit skate park, kids pump track, roller hockey court, soccer pitch, high ropes course, covered climbing wall and a drop-in center. Early on we believed that God has called us to not just plant a church in the everyday sense; rather we feel called to develop an extraordinary, redemptive community where everyone has a chance to discover Jesus. We envision Water's Edge Centre to be a combination of drop-in centre, retreat house, mission station, hostel, school, arts center and over-all 'powerhouse' for the local community. A source not only of Christ centered energy but also of hospitality, learning and cultural enlightenment. Church life nees to revolve around work, rest, play and prayer with three values at it's foundation - prayer, mission, and justice. Water's Edge would include all three.
