Overview

The Open Door was founded in 1976 as a non-profit society. Our mission is "To Empower Single Mothers through Emotional, Physical and Spiritual Support." We are a non-denominational society operating on Christian values and principles. An open door always signifies a welcome to come in!

Currently our programs run from September to June. Squamish Open Door takes place every Monday, except holidays, from 9:30 am to 1:00 pm. We offer childcare for children between the ages of 18 months and five years. Space is limited in our nursery so please note it is a first come, first serve basis. Nutritious meals are provided as well as a variety of workshops and activities. We are located at Mountain Valley Mission Church (37729 Second Ave, Squamish)

Open Door seeks to support, encourage, and grow faith in the lives of single mothers and their children.  Giving moms a chance to relax in an atmosphere of love and acceptance while their children are cared for. Women listen to each other, respond to each other, pray for, and lovingly support each other through the difficulties of raising children, working or trying to find work, and meeting household responsibilities alone. Most moms say they can’t wait until Monday when they can come together again.  A small breakfast is served to the women and children followed by a workshop or other activity, then lunch is served with a bible study to follow. The work often continues during the week in practical ways of meeting needs. Each July mothers and children head for Keats Camp for a few days of rest and spiritual refreshment.

Current needs are: As we go through the process of building the Open Door team, we are in need of volunteers to cook meals for Mondays.  For the time being they can be prepared at home ahead of time, frozen and dropped off for future use OR volunteers can use the kitchen at MVM on Monday afternoons (1PM – 5PM) to prepare the food and leave it in the freezer there for future use.
