"PRAYER ITSELF IS AN ART WHICH ONLY THE HOLY SPIRIT CAN TEACH US. PRAY FOR PRAYER. PRAY UNTIL YOU CAN REALLY PRAY!" (C.H.Spurgeon)

As Kenda and I began to read Pete Greig’s book “Red Moon Rising”, God began to spark something in us in the area of prayer. One of the quotes which grabbed my attention was this: “No where left to turn but to prayer…white water ride…all I want is You. ‘Augustine once said that God puts salt on our tongues that we may thirst for Him. Sometimes it is tears which carry the salt.’” Not “prayer” as a model or program to be embraced, but as a faith step declaring to God that we are totally dependant upon Him in this journey.

So we began to dialogue about actually running a 24-7 prayer event for 40 days straight. But we knew we couldn’t possibly do this alone – we felt we needed to join others in this journey. So we were especially encouraged to hear from Andy Lambkin of simplechurches in North Vancouver that they too were planning on launching a 24-7 40 days of prayer over the same time period. This was a confirmation that we were listening well. We were excited to join with the larger Body of Christ, seeking God’s face together.

So we launched our first ever 24-7 40 days of prayer out of a little chapel in Brackendale through September and October. We ended up praying for 117 hours total those 40 days! It was an amazing experience and I think we all grew in our intimacy with Jesus those days.
We are planning on doing this again, so we will keep you posted on the details about that. Please be in prayer as we will need a new location for the prayer room, perhaps linked somehow to our own Urban Monastery one day.
